Time Deposits

A Time Deposit also called a CD (certificate of deposit), lets you earn a guaranteed interest rate for a set amount of time. When you invest in a CD, you agree to invest your savings for a pre-set period of time. In return, we guarantee your interest rate up-front. A CD is a great fit if you don’t need immediate access to your funds and want a predictable rate of return.

The certificates of deposit issued by The Homestead yield one of the highest returns in the area.

Rate Information:	The interest rate and annual percentage yield for your account depend upon the applicable rate tier. The interest rate and annual percentage yield for these tiers may change.
Frequency of rate changes:	We may change the interest rate on your account at any time.
Compounding and crediting frequency:	Interest will be compounded every day. Interest will be credited to your account at the end of every quarter. If you close your account before interest is credited, you will receive the accrued interest.
Minimum balance to open the account:	You must deposit $100.00 to open this account.
Minimum balance to avoid Imposition of fees:	A service charge fee of $2.00 will be imposed each quarterly statement cycle if the average daily balance for the quarter falls below $200.00. The average daily balance is calculated by adding the principal in the account for each day of the period and dividing that figure by the number of days in the period.
Minimim balance to obtain the annual percentage yield disclosed.	You must maintain a minimum balance of $100.00 in the account each day to obtain the disclosed annual percentage yield. If the account balance falls below the minimum balance of $100.00, interest will not be accrued on those days that the balance is below the minimum of $100.00.
Daily balance computation method:	We use the daily balance method to calculate the interest on your account. This method applies a daily periodic rate to the principal in the account each day.
Accrual of interest on noncash deposits:	Interest begins to accrue on the business day you deposit noncash items (for example, checks).
Transaction limitations:	Depositors may not make more than six (6) preauthorized withdrawals, (including, but not limited to withdrawals made by an automated clearing house, telephone, internet, or wire) quarterly. These limitations do not apply to withdrawals made through automated teller machines, over-the-counter, mail or messenger.
Fees:	An excess activity fee of $1.00 will be charged for each debit/withdrawal in excess of three during a quarter. An exit charge fee of $20.00 will be charged if the account is closed within six months from date of opening.

St. Landry Homestead was established in 1922 and has been in continuous operation since then. After more than eighty years, there have only been four bank presidents.

The Homestead has weathered the Great Depression, two World Wars, the slumping economy of the 80’s and the inevitable rises and slumps in the economy when dealing with a non-diverse economic area without comprising its values or goals. Banking with the Homestead is a good decision because the institution and employees care about customers and the community as is evident from the most recent Community Reinvestment Act Exam rating which was “Outstanding”- the highest level a financial institution can achieve.

The main office is located at 235 North Court Street in Opelousas, Louisiana. Two (2) branches serve the outlying areas, one in Port Barre at 418 Saizon Street, and at 101 North Sixth Street in Eunice.

BACK GROUND OF ST. LANDRY PARISH

St. Landry Parish is the site of one of the oldest European settlements in Louisiana, le Poste des Opelousas, an administrative territory established by the French government in 1720. At first it was an obscure military outpost governed in turn by the French and the Spanish, but, by 1791, the area was settled by English, Scottish, Irish, and German people. They found the area perfect for agriculture and raising cattle, and the government post soon developed as a commercial center serving farms and plantations. In 1804, about a year after the Louisiana Purchase, the parish was named for St. Landry.

With its dramatic history and diverse cultures, St. Landry Parish boasts a difference, which few, if any, places in America can claim today. The influences here- Native American, European, African, Acadian and American-have mixed and matched for almost three centuries to produce the spirit of survival against all odds, a unique spirit that could only come from hardship, that gives St. Landry Parish its own unique survivalist character and personality.
